Fine Arts and Film

There is always the discussion dealing with films if it’s considered a fine art or not.  If you ask me I would say that yes you can consider it a fine art.  The definition of a fine art is aesthetic pleasure, perfection “beauty” “sublime” idea, and to have a purpose or intention.  I you look at films, all films can fit into this category.  Every film made has its own topic and its own kind of movie to fit into the categories.  For example you have scary or horror movies and another example are comedy movies.  All of these can fit into the topic that yes it should be considered a fine art.
There are seven categories that can be considered a type of fine art and there are arguments for why or why not just as there is for films.  The seven categories are music, sculpture, painting, drama, dance, poetry, and architecture.  All of these fit into the fine arts category and with the definition of it.  The only one that I see doesn’t make total sense to me on why it’s in this category is architecture.
The definition of architecture is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings and other physical structures.  This does fit into the category because it involves planning and a design of an object such as a dance or a painting.  A big key that is involved in a film or a fine art is a medium.  A medium is a painting, sculpture, or a theater type of object or action.  This is a key part in the whole decision making involving all these types of categories.

The more and more I am involved with this call I catch myself thinking about how things can be a type of fine art or in films.  During all the movies that we have watched in class I look for these types of things to see how it makes the movie what it is.  If it’s a comedy or a horror film you have to look into all these categories.  With all of this being said I do believe that films should be considered a fine art and there is many arguments that go with this being in that category.
